Rabbi Berg to receive Torah of Tradition award The Southwest Region of the American Jewish Congress will honor Rabbi Peter S. Berg of Temple Emanu-El at its biennial meeting and installation of officers Feb. 23, 10 a.m. to noon in Tobian Hall at Temple Emanu-El. Dallas Mayor Laura Miller will be the featured speaker. Rabbi Berg will receive the Torah of Tradition Award in recognition of his contributions to the community. He has worked with members of the congregation and advocacy groups on issues of separation of church and state, death penalty, abortion, gun control, civil rights, religious freedom, welfare, hate crimes, and the environment. Rabbi Berg is on the group's board of directors. Barry Greenberg, outgoing regional president, will be recognized for his years of service. Incoming co-presidents are Aaron Kaplan of Congregation Shearith Israel and Richard Rosenblatt of Temple Emanu-El. Also installed will be vice presidents Stan Golden, Ellen Markus, Marvin Migdol, Jerry Rasansky and Richard Shampain; secretary Nelda Golden, and treasurer Harry Kabler.
