Singles enjoy fun weekend in June

Jewish singles from throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana will converge at Temple Emanu-El, Dallas on June 14-16, 2002, for "ConclaveÉGenesis Style." This fun-filled and relaxed weekend is being organized by Genesis, Temple Emanu-El's community for singles 21-45.

Single Jews from near and not so far are being invited to spend a weekend in Dallas reminiscent of high school youth group regional events. Laurie Task, event chairperson, says the idea came to her from singles in Tulsa, Oklahoma. "There really isn't much to do within the singles community in Tulsa. When someone asked if there were any Genesis events they should travel to Texas for, I decided to ask Genesis to plan a whole weekend of events to make it a worthwhile trip."

Task and the planning committee have put together a weekend which will be fun, relaxing, and spiritually fulfilling for local singles as well as the out-of-town guests.

Among the activities participants can join are a Friday night Shabbat dinner followed by a creative service led by members of the singles community, a trip to the Mesquite rodeo, Shabbat morning study and services, a mitzvah project, and a farewell brunch at Blue Mesa Grill. There will be plenty of time to shmooze and swim, and of course lots of eating, too!

To help create a sense of community for the weekend, out-of-towners will be matched up with local singles who have agreed to open their homes and act as hosts. The group is even making up superb hospitality bags!

"We worked very hard to be flexible with the times and pricing," said Task. "You can come to one event for the weekend or all of them!" To get an application, volunteer to help, or for more information, contact Rabbi Mark Kaiserman's study at (214) 706-0022 or .
