Additional speaker added to War on Terrorism panel

On Sunday, Nov. 18, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Aaron Family JCC in Dallas, the Regional Hillel of North Texas is sponsoring a current events panel. Speakers include Rosalyn Simowitz, Professor of Political Science, UT, Arlington (International Implications of current events); Joy Nathan, Associate Director, SW Region AIPAC (Impact of current events on Israel and the US relationship with Israel); Michael Precker, Feature Writer, Dallas Morning News (How the media covers these events); Amy Eber, LMSW, Jewish Family Services (Dealing with terrorism personally and as a community); and Ronald Charles, MD, Asst. Professor of Emergency Medicine, UT Southwestern (Medical Warfare).

The panel will be moderated by Richard Golden, Professor of History and Director of the UNT Jewish Studies Program. This program is free and open to the public.

DFW JSA Kick-off BBQ a huge success

Despite the painful overtime loss by the Cowboys to the New York Giants and some overly frozen meat, the DFW Jewish Students Association started off with a bang. Approximately 30 students Collin County, Brookhaven, Tarrant County, UT-Arlington campuses and more came together and had fun watching the game and meeting other Jewish students. Look for more DFW JSA events in the near future.

Judaism 101 in Fort Worth Nov. 18

Scholar-in-residence at Kol Ami

Congregation Kol Ami in Flower Mound invites students to a very special weekend Nov. 16-17 to join scholar-in-residence Cantor Janice Roger. The program is: Friday, Nov. 16, 6:15 p.m., Congregational Dinner; 7:45 p.m., A Sermon in Song; Saturday, Nov. 17, 9 a.m., Torah Study; 10 a.m., Torah Service; Noon, Luncheon Study, "Journaling the Journey: Reimagining how we Worship." Kosher Thanksgiving dinners offered for students

The Forest Lane Shul is bringing in Rabbi Manis Friedman for a program geared towards young adults entitled "If it is a match made in heaven, What is it doing on earth?" Space is limited for the lecture on Thursday, Dec. 6, 8 to 9:30 p.m. at the Shul. To reserve your spot, call Jane Nelson at (214) 361-8600. There will also be a kiddush with the Rabbi the following Shabbat, Dec. 8 after services. At this time there will the opportunity for more informal conversations with Rabbi Friedman.

Spitzer forum in Washington, D.C.

Applications are now being accepted for the Charlotte and Jack J. Spitzer B'nai B'rith Hillel Forum on Public Policy. This is your opportunity to explore and expand your interest in public policy and social action. Early-bird registration deadline is Dec. 10. Prior to this date, registration is $320. After Dec. 10 it is $350. Scholarships are available and the price includes hotel. The Spitzer Forum is held in conjunction with the Annual plenum of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA). This year there are three specialized tracks with limited space that may be signed up for: Environment Track, co-sponsored by the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life; J-Track (Journalism), co-sponsored by the American Jewish Press Association; and Grassroots Organizing Track, co-sponsored by AMOS: The National Jewish Partnership for Social Justice and the Jewish Social Justice Network.
